In the News till November 27 2004 Microsoft finally releases the beta version of its own proprietary search engine. Microsoft's entry to the world of search engines will have fairly significant effects on the industry. Up to now, MSN displayed results from the Yahoo / Overture database. A preview shows highly relevant results under a variety of keyword phrases. Relevant results, with the search engine's clean design, could make MSN Search a serious challenge to Google's current dominance of the present and future search market. BIG A after the BIG B: Bollywood beauty, former Miss World Aishwarya Rai after her first English film "Bride and Prejudice" has found a place at the Madame Tussauds waxwork museum in London. New Chemical Promises to Make Perms Speedier and Safer A new hair product may change the typical scene at beauty salons where people sit in rows waiting for hours for their perms to come out. The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology has developed a new chemical for perms that shortens the entire process to only 20 minutes. The reshaping of hair involves putting it around rods and wrapping it with paper and usually takes at least two hours. Now it looks like people can say goodbye to the grueling hours of waiting in a beauty parlor when getting a perm. The product does not involve a radically new process. It simply speeds up the typical perming process by breaking down certain protein bonds in the hair and reforming them into new shapes. Researchers add the shortened period means less exposure to harsher chemicals, which translates into less hair damage. The world's HAIRIEST man, Chinese rock singer Yu Zhenhuan, underwent ear surgery in Shanghai to remove hair that was impairing his hearing, the Xinhua news agency said. Doctors said Yu had complained of constant earaches and nausea and had lost one-third of his hearing, Xinhua said. He underwent surgery on Friday. Yu was recognised in 2002 as the world's hairiest man by the Guinness Book of Records, xinhua said. Yu's body, save the palms of his hands and the soles of his feet, is covered with an average of 41 hairs per 1 sq cm (0.16 sq inch), a condition doctors term 'atavism', it said. 26-year-old Yu, a rock-and-roll singer, made his entertainment debut at the age of six in a movie about 'a hairy child's adventure', the state news agency said. (Source: Reuters) BAHRAIN'S hair styling competition Hair Clash 2004 has been called off, in a dispute between the project coordinator and the company presenting the show. Show presenter Pinnacle Advertising says it has lost thousands of dinars after being forced to halt the show. The event had already attracted about 30 contestants of various nationalities and was to be held at the Hilton on Sunday. "The show will be shelved for an indefinite period of time,"
said a company spokeswoman.
